Dakhin Pookalam Competition 2026

Terms & Conditions

1. Promoter

The promoter of the Dakhin Pookalam Competition 2026 is PSB 2 LTD T/A Dakhin, 89 Candleriggs, Merchant City, Glasgow G1 1NP (“Dakhin”, “we”, “us” or “the Promoter”).

2. Competition period

The competition opens on Monday 17 August 2026 and closes at 10:00pm BST on Wednesday 26 August 2026.

Entries received after 10:00pm on 26 August 2026 will not be considered.

The winners will be announced on Friday 28 August 2026.

3. Who can enter

The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom.

Employees of Dakhin, anyone directly involved in administering or judging the competition, and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

Children are welcome to take part.

Entrants under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter.

Children under the age of 13 must have their entry submitted on their behalf by a parent or legal guardian using the adult’s Instagram account.

Dakhin may ask for confirmation of parental or guardian consent before awarding a prize to an entrant under the age of 18.

4. How to enter

Entry is free and no purchase is necessary.

To enter:

• Create your own Pookalam.
• Take a photograph of your finished creation.
• Send the photograph to Dakhin by direct message on Instagram or Facebook before the competition closes at 10:00pm BST on 26 August 2026.

Pookalams can be made using traditional fresh flower petals or other creative materials, including crafts, sweets or other decorative materials.

Each Pookalam submitted will be treated as a separate entry.

Entrants may submit more than one Pookalam, provided each entry is an original creation made by the entrant or, in the case of a child’s entry, by the child entering the competition.

Each entrant may win a maximum of one prize.

Incomplete entries, entries received after the closing time, or entries that do not follow these requirements may be disqualified.

5. Original work

Entries must be the entrant’s own original work.

By entering, entrants confirm that:

• they created the Pookalam shown in the photograph;
• the photograph belongs to them or they have permission to submit it;
• the entry does not infringe another person’s copyright, trade mark or other intellectual property rights; and
• they have permission from anyone identifiable in the photograph for the image to be submitted and used in connection with the competition.

Where an identifiable child appears in an entry photograph, the entrant must have permission from that child’s parent or legal guardian.

Where possible, we recommend submitting a photograph of the Pookalam itself without identifiable people appearing in the image.

Dakhin reserves the right to disqualify any entry where there are reasonable grounds to believe that it is not the entrant’s own work or that the entrant does not have the necessary permission to submit it.

6. Judging

This is a judged competition and the winners will not be selected at random.

Entries will be judged on:

• creativity and inventiveness;
• visual impact;
• originality; and
• overall execution of the Pookalam.

Using traditional flowers is not required. Creative interpretations and the use of alternative materials are welcome and will not be disadvantaged solely because they do not use traditional materials.

Entries will be judged by a panel including Peet from Dakhin and at least one independent judge.

The independent judge will be independent of Dakhin, the administration of the promotion and the entrants.

The full names of the judges will be made available on request.

The judging panel will select a first, second and third place winner based on the judging criteria above.

In the event that the judges consider two entries to be of equal merit, the independent judge will make the final decision between those entries.

The decision of the judging panel will be final.

7. Prizes

There are three prizes:

First place: £100 Dakhin voucher
Second place: £75 Dakhin voucher
Third place: £50 Dakhin voucher

The vouchers can be redeemed at Dakhin, 89 Candleriggs, Merchant City, Glasgow G1 1NP.

Any standard conditions or expiry date shown on the voucher will apply.

The prizes cannot be exchanged for cash.

Prizes are non-transferable unless Dakhin agrees otherwise.

No travel, accommodation or other expenses associated with visiting Dakhin or redeeming the voucher are included in the prize.

If, for reasons outside Dakhin’s reasonable control, a stated prize cannot be provided, Dakhin reserves the right to provide a reasonable alternative prize of equal or greater value.

8. Winner announcement and contact

The three winners are expected to be announced on Dakhin’s social media channels on Friday 28 August 2026.

Dakhin will also contact the winners through the Instagram account used to submit the entry.

Winners may be asked to confirm their eligibility and provide information reasonably required to issue their prize.

Where a winner is under 18, Dakhin may require confirmation from their parent or legal guardian before the prize is awarded.

If a winner does not respond within 14 days of Dakhin’s first attempt to contact them, cannot provide the information reasonably required to award the prize, or is found to be ineligible, Dakhin reserves the right to award the prize to the next highest-scoring eligible entry.

Entrants should be cautious of fake accounts. Dakhin will never ask a winner to make a payment in order to receive a competition prize.

9. Use of submitted photographs

Entrants retain ownership of their photographs and creations.

By entering the competition, entrants grant Dakhin a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, share and publish the submitted photograph on Dakhin’s website, social media channels and other digital channels for the purposes of:

• administering the competition;
• sharing competition entries;
• announcing and celebrating the winners; and
• promoting Dakhin’s Onam celebrations and this Pookalam competition.

Dakhin may credit the entrant using their first name or Instagram username where appropriate.

If an entrant does not want their name, Instagram username or other identifying information to be published, they can tell Dakhin when entering or by contacting Dakhin before the winners are announced.

Images of children will not be identified by the child’s full name without permission from their parent or legal guardian.

10. Personal information

Dakhin will use personal information received in connection with the competition only where necessary to administer the competition, assess entries, contact winners, verify eligibility, award prizes and comply with applicable legal or regulatory requirements.

Entering this competition will not automatically add an entrant to Dakhin’s email or marketing database.

Any consent to receive marketing communications must be obtained separately.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with Dakhin’s Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.

Information will only be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for the administration of the competition and any related legal or compliance requirements.

11. Fair participation

Dakhin reserves the right to reject or disqualify entries that:

• do not comply with these Terms & Conditions;
• contain offensive, discriminatory, unlawful or inappropriate material;
• infringe the rights of another person;
• have been copied from another entrant or creator;
• use false information;
• involve manipulation, fraud or other attempts to gain an unfair advantage; or
• otherwise compromise the fair administration of the competition.

Dakhin may request reasonable evidence to verify that an entry complies with these Terms & Conditions.

12. Changes or cancellation

Dakhin reserves the right to amend, suspend or cancel the competition where circumstances outside its reasonable control make this necessary.

Dakhin will not make changes that unfairly disadvantage entrants who have already entered unless those changes are necessary to deal with circumstances outside its reasonable control.

Any significant changes will be communicated through Dakhin’s social media channels and, where appropriate, on this page.

13. Instagram

This competition is administered by Dakhin and is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Instagram or Meta.

By entering, participants acknowledge that Instagram has no responsibility for the administration of the competition or the awarding of prizes and release Instagram from any responsibility relating to the promotion to the extent permitted by law.

Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the competition should be directed to Dakhin and not Instagram.

14. Acceptance of these terms

By entering the Dakhin Pookalam Competition, entrants confirm that they have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

For entrants under the age of 18, their parent or legal guardian is deemed to have agreed to these Terms & Conditions by permitting the child to enter.

15. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions and the competition are governed by the laws of Scotland.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects any statutory rights an entrant may have under applicable consumer law.
